Infrastructure Bill in Central Texas

Texas is experiencing unprecedented growth thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which provides $1.2 trillion in total funding, including $550 billion in new infrastructure investments. Nationwide, more than 60,000 infrastructure projects are improving roads, bridges, broadband, airports, and public transportation while creating new economic opportunities.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, these investments have helped support more than 700,000 transportation jobs and 1.7 million construction and manufacturing jobs. The White House also highlights Texas as a major beneficiary, with investments modernizing highways, bridges, broadband, freight corridors, and critical infrastructure to strengthen the state's economy and workforce.

Why This Matters for Central Texas

From Killeen and Temple to Belton, Waco, and Austin, infrastructure improvements along Interstate 35, Interstate 14, and key freight corridors are making Central Texas more attractive for businesses, manufacturers, logistics companies, and skilled workers. Combined with the economic impact of Fort Cavazos, these investments are creating new opportunities for local communities and employers.

The Growing Need for Workplace Safety

As construction, transportation, and utility projects expand, so does the need for drug and alcohol testing and DOT compliance. Millions of safety-sensitive employees regulated by FMCSA, FAA, FRA, FTA, and PHMSA must comply with federal drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 to help keep employees, worksites, and the public safe.

Industry analysts project the workplace drug testing market to grow at an estimated 5%–7% CAGR, driven by infrastructure expansion, workforce growth, and increased employer focus on safety and compliance.

Final Thoughts

Infrastructure is building more than roads and bridges; it's building stronger communities, creating high-quality jobs, and increasing the demand for workplace safety, DOT compliance, and drug-free workplace programs.

As Central Texas continues to grow, employers that invest in compliance and workforce safety will be best positioned to support the region's future while protecting their employees, businesses, and communities.
